Following a change in the law on 1 April 2013 many firms are now effectively giving their clients only 75% of their own compensation. The last 25% is being used by the firms to boost their fees. This is because the success fee that lawyers charge when they win a claim, which used to be payable by the Defendants (who are usually a large insurance company) is now no longer recoverable, unless the lawyer can deduct it from their own client’s damages. |
